RLB confirms quantity surveyor role for FC Barcelona stadium

January 23, 2014.

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) has been hired by ICON Venue Group to act as quantity surveyor for the feasibility study of the new stadium plans for FC Barcelona.

The property and cost consultant has been working on two viable options since September 2013 which include a new stadium in the existing location – ENEA: New Stadium Existing Structure – and a new stadium at a new site.

The football club this month confirmed it had selected the project ENEA and to remain in the existing location. The estimated project cost is €600million and the four-year work could start in 2017, subject to a member’s referendum to be held in April 2014.

The proposed design would increase capacity from almost 100,000 to 105,000. It includes improved functionality, accessibility, mobility, sustainability, modernity and quality. It has been designed to be focused on the people, the neighbourhood and the city. Improved hospitality and VIP facilities will also be a key improvement.

RLB was appointed by global sports arena and stadium consultants, ICON Venue Group to undertake the quantity surveying study on behalf of the football club. It has also been working in collaboration with Barcelona-based cost management firm Projects and Facilities Management.

The proposed new Camp Nou includes three main areas: the stadium, a new Palau Blaugrana for 10,000 spectators and the Espai Barça (Barça Area), which would involve buildings for different purposes integrated into the district.

Continuing our work on major sporting venues

UK Partner Russell Lloyd said, ‘RLB has had the privilege of working on a large number of major sporting events and stadiums around the world, and is delighted to bring its experience to bear on a stadium of such prestigious local, national and international standing.’

He added, ‘A key priority throughout all the planning has been to ensure that the team can continue to play its matches whilst work on delivering the new eye catching stadium continues. I am sure that players and fans alike will be delighted at this prospect along with greatly enhanced facilities.’

RLB recently announced its appointment to the Baku Commonwealth Games. It is also working on the Rio Olympic Games 2016 and also worked on London 2012, Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008.
