RLB Employee Excellence Awards announced

The RLB Employee Excellence Awards have been announced for 2017. These awards recognise staff who go the extra mile to make extraordinary contributions, and in so doing, demonstrate RLB’s values.

Three individuals have been selected from a field of exceptionally high-calibre entrants.

2017 Winners

Young Achiever Award and Overall Winner: Josh Tattley, Senior Quantity Surveyor, RLB in Auckland

A rare combination of technical skill, intellect, personality and dogged determination has seen Josh quickly climb the ranks. He is loved by clients, commands the respect of his peers and is an excellent technical quantity surveyor.

Josh plays a key role in multiple projects across three of Auckland’s long-term clients, totalling around $500 million, which represents 25 percent of the revenue of the Auckland office. His proactive thinking in design meetings and procurement sessions continues to create positive discussions and outcomes.

Josh has also been selected to be part of the Committee for Auckland’s Future Leaders program; a two-year leadership and business development program liaising with key stakeholders within the business sector.

A few words from our stakeholders

‘Josh has shown a maturity well beyond his years, and he is more than capable of taking a firm line with the contractor, as well as taking a more holistic approach to gain the best long term outcome for the project and the client’

‘Josh has added value to the project by looking at issues from all angles and having the confidence to suggest cost-effective solutions that were not on the obvious path’

‘What truly sets Josh apart is his emotional intelligence. He knows what’s important, he’s very personable and he builds effective working relationships’

Excellence in Business Performance Award: Tom Chatterton, Senior Quantity Surveyor, RLB in Christchurch

Tom has the vision and values of RLB at heart, by not only enhancing his own knowledge of the BIM process, but by educating and creating systems to boost the knowledge of his peers. After an influx of projects using BIM following the Christchurch Earthquakes, Tom identified a need for training. His creation of BIM Walkthrough Guides to compliment training webinars hosted by RLB in Melbourne, has contributed to the upskilling of the Christchurch office.

Tom also created the Christchurch BIM Committee, where he leads a small group that helps to increase understanding and confidence in BIM. As Marketing Champion in the Global BIM Committee, he is working towards incorporating BIM into the culture of RLB.

It’s no wonder then that Tom, with a nod to our strapline, proudly coined the phrase ‘BIMming imagination to life’.

Excellence in Innovation Award, Julie Bishop, Chief Operations Officer, RLB in NSW

As Chief Operations Officer, Julie is continuously looking at ways to improve the efficiencies within RLB in NSW for both staff and clients. As a qualified quantity surveyor, she has leveraged her understanding of our profession to help deliver software solutions that makes our jobs quicker, easier and future-proof.

Julie was instrumental in designing and writing the software program for the NSW Jobcost system. The Jobcost module has stood the test of time. It is over 30 years old and is still delivering robust reporting today.

Through Julie’s valued contribution, she has literally helped ‘bring imagination to life’ – firstly by dedicating herself to shaping RLB’s processes, and ultimately challenging how our industry works to create a better tomorrow for all stakeholders and participants.
