RLB teams with Whitebridge Hospitality and STR to publish the Latin Americas & Caribbean Hotels Monitor Report

May 25, 2018.

For seven years, Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) has collaborated with Whitebridge Hospitality, a specialist advisor to investors and developers, and STR, who provide clients with industry research, to create the Latin America & Caribbean Hotels Monitor, a regional summary complete with performance trends, construction costs, and a transaction tracker.

Latin America & Caribbean experience mixed RevPAR results

With 12 of the 32 Caribbean islands directly impacted by this year’s hurricane season, islands are seeing an impact in sector activity.  The Caribbean experiences an influx in demand for housing and infrastructure project, where Brazil sees its highest volume of hospitality projects, with over 28,000 rooms in the pipeline.  South America is facing its 7th consecutive growth in RevPAR, in the last 12 months by +0.7%, while Central America experienced a drop in RevPAR (-1.4) with a close to nil occupancy growth (+0.2%) mitigating a -1.4% ADR decline.

2017, the most – costly hurricane season yet

Construction costs are among many components affected by the slew of natural disasters to hit the region, with costs highest in the areas most devastated.  The Latin America & Caribbean Hotels Monitor’s Transaction Tracker indicates that transactions are up and, despite increased construction costs, that the number of new projects in the pipeline has not faltered.
