RLB announces new Oceania Chairman

Rider Levett Bucknall Victoria Director and Executive Committee member Ewen McDonald has been appointed as Oceania Chairman of Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) and will sit on the RLB Global Board.

He will become RLB’s fourth Oceania Chairman since the formation of RLB with its global partners in Asia and Europe in 2007.

Ewen is a trusted and respected quantity surveyor, leading the RLB Victorian team of industry experts who bring passion and innovation to the benefit of some of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks, such as the MCG, Melbourne Park Precinct, Chadstone Shopping Centre and Collins Arch.

RLB Global Chairman Stephen Mee said that the committee was delighted that Ewen had accepted the role to lead RLB through the next phase of growth and success.

Stephen added;

‘Ewen’s long history of leadership within the group and his considerable experience in a diverse range of projects for both private and institutional clients, makes him an ideal person for this role.

He has an intimate knowledge of the workings of the firm and its people, having previously led both operational and technical management development initiatives for the group.’

Having advised clients in both the public and private sectors and across large retail and mixed-use developments, PPP health projects and high density residential developments, Ewen’s knowledge spans a broad range of RLB’s key client sectors.

Beginning his career at RLB in 1981 as a Cadet Quantity Surveyor, he became an Associate in 1994 and was appointed Director in 1998. He was appointed to the Oceania Executive Committee in 2014 and has served as Chair of the ICT Committee for over 10 years.

Ewen received an Associate Diploma in Quantity Surveying from RMIT and is an Associate of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

Ewen is a member of the RMIT’s Construction Course Advisory Committee, providing industry feedback to enable the continual improvement of undergraduate education. Ewen understands the need for mentoring and coaching in positive and inclusive workplaces, to allow young professionals to reach their full potential.

Ewen said;

‘It is a privilege to be selected to lead RLB’s Oceania Executive Committee. I am particularly looking forward to building on the firm’s recent achievements and continuing the task of realising the aspirations of both our clients and our people by supporting them to achieve their goals. RLB now has more than 3,600 people across the group. I am passionate about what we do for all of our clients, but that can only be achieved by attracting and retaining the best talent within the industry.

RLB is a business with an impressive reach across Oceania and beyond – supporting clients to take projects from an idea to reality. I’m excited by the opportunities that RLB has to cement its leadership position and expand its service offering and footprint in the years ahead and I look forward to working with the team to achieve these objectives.’
