The new $100 million Adelaide Botanic High School opens its doors for term 1 in 2019
January 28, 2019.
RLB is proud to have provided cost management services to the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and the Department for Education, delivering South Australia’s first vertical high school for 1,250 secondary students.
Designed by Cox Architecture in partnership with Design Inc, the Adelaide Botanic High School delivers an innovative and flexible space to encapsulate the best 21st century learning pedagogy.
‘The project’s success could not have been achieved without a high performance, collaborative project team across all disciplines,’ said Managing Director, Andrew Suttie (left).
With high expectations on project deliverables, RLB ensured the budget was maintained and added value achieved through the development of cost efficient design elements such as curved glass facades, curtain wall façade systems, modular atrium glazing systems, efficient structural solutions (in particular the sports gym which supports an outdoor learning terrace) and external ‘pop-out’ learning pods. All internal elements were designed with flexibility and robustness, and required careful budget management.
Reuse and transformation of the Reid building into one of the two, five level towers and connecting them with a light filled active atrium, not only contributed to the project’s sustainability aspirations, but made efficient use of the previous university science facility.
Project Cost Manager and RLB Associate, Sam Martin (right), commented ‘The built form of the school will inspire and challenge students and the embedded smart technology will enable greater student collaboration, connectivity and opportunity for learning and discovery.’
The project was delivered on time and within budget and will become a benchmark contemporary education facility.
