Collins Square takes out Victoria’s top property prize

One of Australia’s largest commercial office development, Collins Square, has taken out Victoria’s top property award.

Owner and developer Walker Corporation will be presented with the Rider Levett Bucknall Victorian Development of the Year award.

Spanning an entire city block, Collins Square incorporates five commercial office buildings, with more than 250,000 sqm of commercial space and 10,000 sqm of retail area.

‘Collins Square is an innovative, inspiring precinct that has been designed to adapt and evolve with the future of work,’ says the Property Council’s Victorian Executive Director Cressida Wall.

‘Vibrant precincts drive investment, growth and productivity, and Collins Square demonstrates the role that these precincts can play in Victoria’s economic recovery.’

The revival of Collins Square commenced in 2010 and includes the refurbishment of the historic Goods Shed which has stood at Melbourne Docklands for more than 120 years.

Home to some of the country’s largest businesses – including the Commonwealth Bank, MLC, Transurban, KPMG, Mars Foods, Tabcorp, NBN and Maddocks – Collins Square forms a bridge between Melbourne’s two major commercial centres: the CBD and Western Precinct.

‘RLB is proud to have been involved on two of the towers. As the future of work changes, we will need places that bring us together. Collins Square shows why smart, sustainable and collaborative workplaces have a secure future,’ says RLB Director in Victoria Ewen McDonald.

The RLB Victorian Development of the Year award is part of the 2020 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.

Collins Square was judged on strict criteria. Eligible projects had to be complete in the previous five years, and have been operating for at least one year as at 31 December 2019.

Collins Square is now vying for the Colliers International Award for Best Office Development and the CEFC Award for Best Sustainable Development – Existing Buildings at the national awards, which will be held virtually on Thursday 22 October from 3pm.

‘There is no questions Victorians are eager to return to the CBD. Iconic projects like Collins Square epitomises what draws people into the CBD – innovation, design excellence and connectivity,’ Ms Wall concludes.
