DEWSBURY LEARNING QUARTER, KIRKLEES COLLEGE

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) provided quantity surveying and cost management services for Kirklees College in the relocation and consolidation to their new town centre teaching facilities, the Dewsbury Learning Quarter.

This development will indirectly contribute to boosting Dewsbury’s long-term economy.
The new Springfield Sixth Form Centre provides further training and learning opportunities for 16-18 year old students and offers specialist courses such as business, IT, childcare, art and media. The Centre comprises ground floor classrooms, CGI studios, food technology areas and a separate motor vehicle building.
RLB is also currently cost managing the Pioneer House development, which is adjacent to the new Springfield Sixth Form Centre. This 5,000m2 Grade II listed building will provide a centre for higher level skills, apprenticeships and post-19 studies; specialising in access courses to HE, business, finance, art and healthcare.
RLB has been providing total cost expenditure and budget management across the project, advising the client across their two developments and has established systems in support of the client’s upstream reporting. Our cost management methodology provided a holistic picture of the financial position of the project, aiding the decision making by the college and the project team.
RLB added value to the project by providing the client with cashflow projection to maximise funding commitments balanced against income and expenditure. RLB also implemented an objective driven procurement process tied with value engineering to minimise cost, maximise value and secure viability for the development.
