Creating the systems to support student accommodation and social hubs

LONDON, ENGLAND

KCL CHAMPION HILL

Work on this £40 million project includes 717 rooms across four new-build blocks, and the renovation of a building to house the Student Social Hub and its support services.

RLB developed an enhanced BIM approach.
This pioneering methodology follows ‘Soft Landings’, the government’s construction strategy to align construction and design with operational asset management.
Traditionally, the two information processes remained separate, as software and hardware can struggle with large BIM projects.
The BIM information is transferred seamlessly into the facilities management system, pre-populating ‘data-rich’ asset information files such as Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
The scheme is also designed to include detailed energy monitoring.
This data is fed back from the Building Management Systems (BMS) to highlight any variances from the predicted energy use during the design stage.
