Delivering the London 2012 Olympic Games

LONDON 2012

For over five years, RLB supported LOCOG in the delivery of the entire temporary overlay for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Our contribution to its success was even recognised by Paul Deighton and Seb Coe, in their roles as London 2012 CEO and Chairman respectively.
A key objective of London 2012 was to deliver a sustainable Olympics with a real legacy. This focus ensured only 6 of the 37 competition venues would be new permanent venues.
RLB worked closely with LOCOG and its design team, to deliver the temporary overlay on time and within budget. This resulted in more temporary venues being installed than the previous four Summer Olympic Games combined.
In partnership with Event Planning Group, RLB also provided a range of project and site management expertise, along with venue operational and health and safety resources. This peaked at Games time with about 120 staff, equating to a quarter of the total temporary venue and overlay delivery team.
21 of the 37 venues were built as temporary, with a total of 120 sites and venues delivered on time and within budget.
From London’s Royal Parks and Royal Palaces to its famous skyline, venues were selected within London and across the UK.
These included Horse Guards Parade for Beach Volleyball, Greenwich Park for Equestrian, and Hyde Park for Triathlon.
RLB has gone on to support Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Baku 2015 European Games, England Rugby 2015 Rugby World Cup, Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games organising committees.
