Strengthening earthquake damaged buildings to withstand the future

NEB - NEW EDUCATION BUILDING

Post-earthquakes, the existing seven-storey Commerce Building has been stripped back to shell and core for repair and strengthening.

Due for completion in September 2017, this project remodels and modernises the building enabling the relocation of the College of Health and Human Development from the Dovetail Campus to the Ilam Campus.

Structurally the building has been seismically upgraded by the addition of an internal steel frame, fitted with Buckle Restraint Braces (BRBs) and Fluid Viscous Dampers (FVDs).

Architecturally, the building will have a new façade, and complete internal fit-out that offers upgraded services and the potential for the building to be re-purposed.

RLB provided cost planning and post contract cost management, as well as full cost management services on all aspects of the project from concept, through early contract involvement to completion.
