PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY PETER STOTT CENTER RENOVATION & VIKING PAVILION

The Peter Scott Center (PSC) is home to Portland State University's athletic, health and physical education programs.

The facility recently underwent a renovation and expansion, transforming Portland State University (PSU) and the Portland community, enabling them to host events, including sporting events, concerts, conferences, and commencement ceremonies.
Prior to renovations, the 1966-built facility was named for alumnus Peter Stott, whose $1M challenge grant enabled a prior renovation of the basketball court. The newest version of the arena began renovations on April 23, 2016. The renovation was complete in time for the 2018-2019 academic year. The atrium space was designed to evoke the hull of a Viking ship in honor of the University’s mascot.
The goal of this project was to address all of PSC’s deferred maintenance, modernize spaces throughout the building and to add a multipurpose arena facing the South Park Blocks. The project included approximately 30,000 SF for student advising, tutoring, studying and classrooms. Building improvements included the renovation of the first-floor locker and training rooms, mechanical system upgrades, sprinkler system upgrades, ADA upgrades, seismic upgrades and consolidation of space to improve functionality and efficiency.
RLB was the cost consultant for this project and helped PSU and Woofer Architects manage the costs necessary to deliver the project program without any additional dollars from student tuition. The $52.1M project now brings pride to the PSU Campus and greater Portland Community.
