Q1 - SURFERS PARADISE

Delivering Australia's tallest residential tower

GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA

Q1 - SURFERS PARADISE

At 80 storeys, Q1 was once the world’s tallest residential tower complex and is recognised as one of the Q150 Icons of Queensland. RLB provided full quantity surveying services in the delivery of this Gold Coast landmark, collaborating with a diverse project team including developer Sunland Group, consultants, contractors, and local authorities.

Designed by SDG and The Buchan Group, its form drew inspiration from the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch and the Sydney Opera House; “the objective was to produce a sculptural form reminiscent of these Australian icons, and a glass skin facilitates this expression. The upswept roof form and spire reference the shape of the torch and provide a dramatic crown to the tower”.

The building rises 323 metres and comprises a supertall tower of 527 residential apartments, with an observation deck on the upper two levels. Beneath the tower is an open-air galleria-like shopping precinct featuring more than 1,800 square metres of retail space.
