Overview

Founded in 1839, Virginia Military Institute (VMI), located in Lexington, Virginia was the first state-supported military college in the nation. VMI, like most colleges, has many sports facilities including a football field, a basketball court, a baseball field, a track, a soccer field, and a pool. At the end of 2016, VMI added an indoor training facility.

Designed by HKS Architects, Inc. the 205,000 SF VMI Indoor Corps Physical Training Facility features a 200-meter, six-lane hydraulically-banking track, and two long/triple jump and vault runways. The LEED Gold certified building includes spectator seating for roughly 1,800 people. Obstacle courses including a rock-climbing wall and a high ropes confidence course are part of the new facility to enable physical training.
