Overview

The Washington State Convention Center is undergoing a 1.5 million square foot addition that will transform how the building interacts with the core of downtown Seattle. The addition, called the Summit, will provide an additional 1.2 million square feet of convention space and will nearly double the current exhibition space.  The vision for the project is to reinvigorate and unite Seattle’s core neighborhoods, enriching the experience for visitors and residents alike.

The Details

The facility incorporates 1.25 million square feet of convention space and 250,000 square feet of parking and retail in an innovative program including stacked exhibit halls – located both above and below grade – two stacked meeting room levels and an expansive ballroom and flex space with an outdoor terrace and exhibit hall. Key feature of this project included the vertical nature of the building and the transparent glass exterior. The project also includes two adjacent building podiums to house future residential and commercial development in the area.

Rider Levett Bucknall provided preliminary cost analysis and cost management support services during design through the design development stage for the architect.
