Wiri Electric Train Maintenance and Stabling Facility, Auckland, New Zealand
Client: Auckland Transport
Services: Cost Management & Quantity Surveying
This purpose-built facility was designed by OPUS and constructed by Downer Construction to maintain Auckland Transport’s new fleet of electric passenger trains.
Built on reclaimed quarry land at Wiri, this highly-complex 8,000 square-metre facility houses specialised maintenance plant and equipment. The project also included an administration block, an automatic train washing facility, six kilometres of track and a sophisticated train protection system to ensure the safety of maintenance staff.
RLB provided quantity surveying and cost management services. Our role extended to risk management and risk mitigation strategies.
Reporting systems were tailored to include all client-direct contracts including specialist equipment, land acquisition cost, internal Auckland Transport costs and consultants’ fees.
