MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL AND STUDENT HUB
RLB provided cost management services for this £73 million project. Achieving best value was a key objective for the flagship scheme.
RLB developed a costed risk register and worked out the value of risk, by utilising a Monte Carlo Simulation, which modelled 10,000 iterations of potential risks occurring.
This process attempted to identify the possible risks and likelihood of occurrence, rather than basing it on an arbitrary percentage allowance.
RLB hosted regular risk workshops with the design team, client and stakeholders throughout the pre and post contract periods in order to constantly review risks.
The new building included a curtain wall façade based on a ‘jewel’, which utilises dichroic film. The facade reacts to the changing patterns of the sun throughout the day, changing the look and style of the building.
With sustainable features such as ground-sourced heating and cooling, the building achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating.
