THE RITTERMAN BUILDING
Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is providing Project Management Services for the delivery of the Ritterman Building.
The appointment is via a framework agreement working alongside BPR Architects and Structural Engineers, Curtins Consulting.
The Ritterman building boasts a number of innovations, including a 110 square-metre living wall, and opens up 3,300 square metres of additional teaching space. Specialist areas include state-of-the-art science labs and a large dance studio.
Delivery of this new facility has been a key step in fulfilling the Universities London Estates Strategy which has seen the University consolidate its operations to the main teaching hub in Hendon, North London. The 5 storey Ritterman Building offers innovative teaching space for the Schools of Science and Technology, Art & Design and Media & Performing Arts.
RLB administered the procurement of main contractor, Interserve through the OJEU procurement process which saw the novation of BPR and Curtins Consulting for the post contract phase.
Careful stakeholder management has been necessary to manage differing priorities, interests and budgets. RLB’s ability to understand varying needs and motivations of the key academic stakeholders has allowed the team to develop strong relationships, which promoted harmony across the wider team.
RLB has worked closely with a number of specialist consultants to provide services such as Acoustic design, Building Control and Environmental consultancy. RLB has been able to provide in house Audio Visual expertise to support our core offering.
As a multi-stakeholder scheme, collaboration was an underlying theme of the design as the scheme brings together the Schools of Science and Technology, Art & Design and Media & Performing Arts.
The building achieves BREEAM excellent status, and therefore must attain an EPC A rating. This has been achieved through the careful design of the building fabric and making use of photovoltaic panels, bio-diverse green living roofing and living walling, rainwater harvesting including grey water systems and energy efficient lighting and climate controls. Environmentally conscious design and planning has enabled the building to deliver against its environmental requirements.
The Ritterman Building completed on time and budget to host teaching for the start of the 2016-2017 academic year.
