Improved data collection will help us meet our decarbonisation goals

In this last reporting year of 2024/25, we have expanded the carbon data we collate on RLB and for the first time we are reporting on carbon emissions from our supply chain using spend-based data. This marks a positive step forward for us as a business in terms of reporting more fully on our wider Scope 3 emissions.

While this means that our overall carbon footprint has more than trebled since the previous reporting year, and will provide an added challenge to our decarbonisation planning, we are proud that our data collection processes continue to develop.

The next stage will be improving the granularity of our supply chain emissions reporting by moving to activity-based data and beyond. This is currently being worked on and will be incorporated in our next ESG Report, along with data on our Scope 3 emissions from employee commuting.

We are pleased to continue our partnership with Planet Mark and have maintained our status as a Planet Mark Certified Business for the second year running. We are looking forward to working with Planet Mark in the coming year as we complete our full carbon footprint and develop our science-aligned decarbonisation roadmap to achieving net zero for our UK operations by 2040, as per The Climate Pledge, or by 2050 at the latest in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement.

We take decarbonisation seriously and continue to seek solutions that will enable RLB to reduce its carbon footprint in the face of practical challenges and myriad global headwinds. This is a journey that every environmentally-conscious business is undertaking, and through partnering with external organisations who can help us, and by working alongside, and sharing knowledge with, other companies and sectors, we are confident we can continue to make meaningful progress towards our commitments.

Target

Net zero by 2025 in the UK across Scopes 1 and 2 and Scope 3 (waste)

Progress

In 2024/25, we achieved a 46.97% reduction against our baseline. Surpassed original target of 20% reduction. Scope 1 and 2 and Scope 3 (waste) emissions increased last year by 1.81tCO₂e. We offset these emissions using carbon removals credits.

Status

█ Target now closed

Target

Net zero emissions for all our UK operations by 2040, or by 2050 at the latest

Progress

We recently revised our target date to achieve full net zero from 2030 to 2040, in line with The Climate Pledge, or by 2050 at the latest, in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement and RLB’s own timeline to be net zero as a global practice. Once we have completed our full UK baseline figure, we will develop a decarbonisation plan.

Target

Collate and calculate carbon emissions from our supply chain

Progress

In 2024/25, we started the process of collating our supply chain emissions (purchased goods and services) for Scope 3 using spend-based accounting metrics. In the next reporting year, we will develop this further by looking at activity-based data.
