The Role

As an Engineering Services Senior or Intermediate level Quantity Surveyor / Estimatorin our Engineering Services team, you’ll play a key role in delivering quantity surveying and estimating services across a diverse range of projects. You’ll work closely with the project leads and represent RLB in client and consultant meetings, maintaining our high professional standards. The candidate as a minimum will need electrical engineering / practical experience but ideally competency also across other services disciplines. Someone who is eager to develop their career and has a wide-ranging skill set and good communication skills will excel in this role. If you have experience with a contractor/sub-contractor or quantity surveying firm with an understanding of residential, commercial and data centre construction you will be a prime candidate for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare early phase budgets with limited design information; cost plans and detailed estimates.
  • Prepare detailed take offs / bill of quantities
  • Provide cost control, value management, and risk analysis
  • Prepare & maintain appropriate benchmarking
  • Deliver construction phase support including progress claim and variation assessments
  • Contribute to marketing and business development through client presentations and industry events
  • Thought leadership
  • Professional development – keeping abreast of latest technologies
  • Mentoring, leadership & training of fellow staff

Key Selection Criteria

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to balance multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of accountability & an ability to work autonomously
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering services, and preferably also an intermediate level or above competency level in other building services disciplines
  • A diploma or higher in the relevant field (electrical, mechanical or other engineering services)
  • Technical expertise in budgeting/cost planning, estimating, cost analysis, tender analysis, and contract administration
  • A sound understanding of the local construction market and industry generally including main players (contractors, suppliers, etc), procurement methods, contracts, pricing, etc.
  • Understanding of latest advancements and technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems (e.g. Aconex)
  • Understanding of sustainability & quality rating tools (e.g. Green Star, NABERS, WELL, etc)
