Highlights

Sydney’s RLB Crane Index® decreased this period, falling from 228 to 214 points (-6.1%). There are now 346 cranes active across the city, down from 370 in Q3 2025. Over the past six months, 148 cranes were removed and 124 were added.

  • Paragon, 143 South Street, Marsden Park (three cranes)

The residential sector eased from 210 to 204 cranes, while non-residential cranes fell from 160 to 142 cranes.

1Across Sydney’s five regions, only the South recorded net growth this period (+2 cranes). The largest decline was in the West (-16 cranes), with crane numbers also falling in the North (-8 cranes).

Sydney Inner recorded 77 cranes this edition, down 1 from 78 in the previous count. Over the past six months, 20 cranes were added and 21 were removed.

Crane numbers in Sydney’s east decreased to 40 cranes. This change includes the addition of four cranes (three in residential and one in mixed use) and the removal of 10 cranes (two in health and eight in residential). Residential sites now account for 70% of the cranes in the east.

Sydney North recorded 110 cranes this edition, down 8 from 118 in the previous count. Over the past six months, 49 cranes were added and 57 were removed.

Sydney South recorded 40 cranes this edition, up 2 from 38 in the previous count. Over the past six months, 15 cranes were added and 13 were removed

Sydney West recorded 79 cranes this edition, down 16 from 95 in the previous count. Over the past six months, 24 cranes were added and 40 were removed.

Total construction work done in NSW in 2025 was $90.7 billion, up 3.5% compared to 2024. Engineering increased by 2.2%, residential activity grew by 6%, and non-residential activity rose by 2.1%.
