The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) has announced the appointment of Fiona Doherty BSc (Hons) FAIQS CQS FRICS as its new President, effective from the close of the 2025 Annual General Meeting.

Fiona succeeds Andrew Brady BSc (QS) FAIQS CQS, and AIQS has thanked Andrew for his leadership and service during his tenure as President.

Fiona brings more than 36 years of experience in the quantity surveying profession, with senior roles across major construction projects in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia and Singapore. She has served on the AIQS Board as a Director since 2019, most recently as Vice President, and has also been a long-standing Councillor on the ACT Chapter.

Reflecting on her appointment, Fiona said her focus would be on strengthening the profession and supporting future leaders.

As AIQS President, I would like my legacy to be that of a leader who inspired meaningful change, empowering the next generation of quantity surveying professionals. My goal is to leave behind a profession that is stronger, more inclusive and better equipped to shape the built environment.

Fiona also highlighted the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

“The future of the built environment will be defined by resilience, innovation and sustainability. Carbon neutrality and climate adaptation are becoming non-negotiable priorities. At the same time, smart technologies, including AI-driven design and IoT-enabled infrastructure, will continue to influence how we plan, construct and maintain buildings. This reflects a broader recognition that the built environment is about creating spaces that enhance quality of life while minimising environmental impact.”

AIQS Chief Executive Officer Dr James Cameron welcomed Fiona’s appointment.

I am delighted to welcome Fiona as the new President of AIQS. Fiona is eminently qualified for the role, and I look forward to working with her over the next two years.

Peter Tulla, Global Board Chair at Rider Levett Bucknall, said Fiona’s appointment reflected her depth of experience and commitment to the profession.

Fiona’s appointment as President of AIQS reflects both her depth of experience and her long-standing commitment to the quantity surveying profession. At RLB, we are proud to support Fiona in this role and to continue working alongside AIQS to uphold professional standards, strengthen capability and support the next generation of industry leaders.

The following Directors on the AIQS Board will support Fiona:
