The Directors of Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) congratulate Sydney Associate Colleen Engel-Mallon on her recent amazing attempt to swim the Cook Strait, which separates the South and North Islands in New Zealand.

10 hours 45 minutes open swim across the Cook Strait, New Zealand

Having commenced her swim at Ohau Point, west of Wellington on New Zealand’s South Island, Colleen swam an impressive 10 hours and 45 minutes towards the North Island, swimming against the tide for most of her journey.

‘It is with great pride that I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Colleen on her heroic effort to swim the Cook Strait in New Zealand,’ said RLB Global Board Member, Stephen Mee.

Protecting the Oceans against plastic pollution

Through her swimming efforts, Colleen aims to raise funds for the Sea Shepherd’s Marine Debris Campaign.https://www.seashepherd.org.au/our-campaigns/marine-debris-campaign/

‘RLB supports plastic free oceans and the awareness that Colleen is fostering within RLB and the global community is inspiring to us all.’

World record attempt

Colleen’s 38km+ swim in New Zealand serves as wonderful training for her world record attempt in September, where she has her sights on completing a two-way 70km+ solo double crossing of the notoriously challenging North Channel between Ireland and Scotland.
