RLB is exceptionally proud to have been recognised for being part of the rejuvenation of the iconic Raffles Hotel. The project recently received the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) Architectural Heritage Awards (AHA) 2022 Award for Conservation.

This award honours outstanding work in the restoration of gazetted heritage buildings, which have largely retained the original building envelope.

The award ceremony was conducted in November and our RLB Director for the project, Ms Lai Sun Mei (far right), was honoured to receive the prestigious award from the Minister for National Development in Singapore, Desmond Lee.

First established in 1887, the Raffles Hotel is a remarkable landmark with a rich history and enduring reputation for delivering the highest standards in hospitality to guests which have included celebrities, royalty, world leaders, and dignitaries from around the world. It is one of the rare buildings in Singapore which has retained its original use, and has kept its original annexes intact through multiple additional and alteration works. RLB was responsible for the last major renovation in the early 1990s and is proud to have serviced the current rejuvenation effort to completely refurbish and upgrade facilities while preserving the heritage and history of this 130-year-old building.

Initiated by Katara Hospitality, the project was a collaboration among esteemed names in the Singapore building industry – including Aedas, Studio Lapis Conservation, Champalimaud Design, Aedas Interior, RLB and Sunray Woodcraft Construction. The restoration project is featured in a 2-part documentary by regional news channel, Channel NewsAsia.
