BROOKINGS SCHOOL

In 2011 many city-owned buildings, including the Brookings School, were devastated by a tornado that struck Springfield, MA.

The Brookings School, which was built in 1925, suffered major damage making renovations unfeasible. Instead a new school was constructed on a 3.5 acre site, in close proximity to the temporary modular classrooms used during construction.
The new school includes a central lobby staircase with ceramic tile, gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, classrooms for music and art and community room spaces. At 65,000 SF and 3 stories, the facility also encourages community use during after-hours; some programs during school hours were also priorities.
Rider Levett Bucknall provided the architect, Drummey Rosane Anderson, with cost estimating services for the Brookings School.
