CHRISTCHURCH WOMEN'S HOSPITAL

Ensuring patient safety during an earthquake

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

CHRISTCHURCH WOMEN'S HOSPITAL

The Christchurch Women's Hospital is a seven storey, 20,000 square-metre modern hospital with post-disaster functionality.

The hospital was the first base-isolated building in the South Island when it re-opened in 2005. The lead rubber bearings located at the underside of the lower ground floor add flexibility to the building, giving a more gentle rolling motion during a major earthquake.

The hospital provides gynaecological and obstetric services and includes a neonatal intensive care unit.

RLB provided full quantity surveying services from concept to completion.
