Sustainability & Carbon

The built environment sector is always focused on the future. But as buildings are responsible for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions, a sustainable future is now sharply in focus. RLB’s sustainability services team can help you plan for that future with confidence. Our end-to-end service offers you a one-stop-shop from asset design to disposal. Whether you need help to assess the cost of green ratings or to reduce your building’s embodied carbon footprint, build a business case for social projects or uplift the energy efficiency of your assets, our team can give you expert advice to make smart, sustainable choices every stage of your project’s lifecycle.

Align your ambition with action

Setting a target is the easy step. Translating that target into real world results takes deep expertise, attention to detail and up-to-the-minute data. RLB’s sustainability specialists can work with your team to understand your specific sustainability goals, matching them with industry best practice, market drivers and potential legislative changes. By working together, we can help you unearth the best opportunities to turn ambition into action.

Measure carbon where it counts

Embodied carbon emissions – the emissions that are locked in as soon as a building comes out of the ground – are hard to abate. The emissions generated during manufacture, construction, transport and demolition will constitute as much as 85% of our building footprint by 2050. RLB can help you to quantify these hidden emissions with a methodology that assesses upfront embodied carbon impacts and offers concise, accurate and informative end-to-end advice across the building lifecycle.

Turn your vision into social value

Sustainability stretches far beyond environmental stewardship, but social, health and wellbeing benefits can often be difficult to measure. If your business is grappling with how to prioritise investment and activities, we can help with a methodology and model that evaluates costs and benefits. When you are not sure where to start, RLB can work with you to develop a social value action plan that meets your unique company vision, meets short-term targets and delivers long-term impact.

Work with partners you can trust

When you choose RLB, you know you have a partner striding out on the same net zero journey. We have established a global carbon policy that aligns our business with international targets set out in the Paris Agreement and we have committed to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 as a global business. We understand the challenges ahead – and can help you to meet them.

AIR NEW ZEALAND INFLIGHT LOGISTICS WAREHOUSE

SUSTAINABLE, SMART, AND STATE-OF-THE-ART: A HIGH-TECH AND LOW-CARBON LOGISTICS BUILDING

Airlines transport more than 52 million metric tons of goods a year – a massive $6.8 trillion worth – according to the International Air Transportation Association*. This represents more than 35% of global trade by value but less than 1% of world trade by volume. But even before Covid-19 landed, airlines were grappling with a host of logistical challenges: safety, security and volatility of passengers and baggage, growing air cargo volumes, digitisation, decarbonisation and more.
