HASTINGS, NEW ZEALAND
MENTAL HEALTH INPATIENT UNIT (NGĀ RAU RĀKAU)
This new building design (replacing two old facilities) supports a higher quality of mental health services for the people of Hawke’s Bay.
By allowing good observation and flexibility in the use and separation of spaces, it provides a less restrictive, and more domestic, safe, and therapeutic environment. The landscaped courtyards also provide safe access to the outdoors for patient enjoyment and relaxation.
Particular importance has been given to the selection of materials and finishes for the robustness, durability and safety of this 2,100 square-metre facility.
