MURDOCH UNIVERSITY NEW ACADEMIC BUILDING
Murdoch University and Multiplex have pushed engineering boundaries with the New Academic Building becoming the largest timber building in Western Australia.
RLB provided quantity surveying services on the four-storey building, which comprises formal and informal learning areas, as well as academic workplaces.
The design team lead by Lyons includes collaboration with Silver Thomas Hanley, The Fulcrum Agency, and Officer Woods Architects.
Beyond the use of the timber frame and cladding, the building has significant embedded technology and ESD (Environmental & Sustainable Design) initiatives achieving a 6 Star Green Star Status.
The landscape program includes the creation of a new main entrance to the campus from Discovery Way that forms an “arrival court” and the creation of indoor and outdoor student spaces designed to maximise connection to Murdoch’s bushland environment.
