NEW LYNN RAIL TRENCH AND ENHANCED STATION
This 990-metre-long trench through the heart of New Lynn, has enabled double-tracking and grade separation of the Western Auckland rail line through the busy town centre.
The new rail configuration provides more frequent commuter rail services, and the double tracking allows trains to travel freely in both directions.
By improving frequency and reliability of services, commuting time for Aucklanders has been greatly reduced.
The project also involved significant roadworks and interface with the City Council’s urban regeneration scheme.
Supreme Award for New Zealand Engineering Excellence 2012.
