TE KOTUKU MATERNITY UNIT
Te Kotuku (the stork) will house all maternity services under one roof and currently includes birthing rooms with ensuite, one and two bedroom inpatient units with ensuite, and four antenatal clinic rooms.
There is also a dedicated room for families who lose their child, and a new Maternity Assessment Unit to reduce the number of short-stay patients.
A ‘long life loose fit’ philosophy influenced the design’s rectangular shape. This structure allows for the expansion of two more floors, as well as a northern extension.
