UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND NEWMARKET INNOVATION CENTRE

The acquisition of the 5.2-hectare former Lion Breweries site meant the University of Auckland could create a new campus close to the main city campus.

Its short distance to the School of Medical and Health Sciences (Grafton campus) ensured the project met immediate needs, as well as the long term growth of the university.

The first stage involved repurposing existing warehouse buildings into large-scale research facilities for the Faculty of Engineering, including a structures-testing hall. This part of the project was fast tracked to meet an ambitious completion date, to coincide with the start of the academic year.

The 5,000 square-metre structures hall includes a ‘strong wall’ and floor structure capable of earthquake testing buildings up to three storeys high.

RLB provided full quantity surveying and cost management services from master planning stage through to completion of construction. We are also providing full quantity surveying services for the recent relocation of technical services workshops to the university’s city campus.
