The Adelaide Convention Centre Stages 1 and 2 has taken out the state’s top property honour for a dynamic approach to tourism that is driving growth and opportunities for South Australians.

Lendlease was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s Rider Levett Bucknall South Australian Development of the Year award at a cocktail party on Friday evening.

‘The Adelaide Convention Centre is a city icon and a South Australian business tourism success story,’ says the Property Council’s Executive Director in South Australia, Daniel Gannon.

‘Since opening its doors in 1987, the venue has delivered more than $1.4 billion in economic benefit to South Australia. The recently-expanded venue has transformed Adelaide’s skyline and is expected to inject an additional $1.92 billion into our economy over the next 25 years,’ Daniel explains.

The South Australian Development of the Year award is part of the national 2019 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.

The redevelopment, owned by Adelaide Venue Management, incorporates two new buildings that have boosted the Centre’s overall footprint to 20,000 square metres of multi-purpose space.

‘RLB is proud to have provided cost management and quantity surveying services to help create Australia’s most flexible and technologically-advanced convention centre,’ says Managing Director of RLB in South Australia Andrew Suttie.

‘The expansion shines a spotlight on not only the Adelaide Convention Centre’s incredible innovation and market-leading capabilities, but also fosters a tremendous sense of South Australian pride.’

The Adelaide Convention Centre Redevelopment is now vying for the Hickory Award for Best Tourism & Leisure Development at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 17 May.
