Elwood House, an innovative apartment development for downsizers that upsizes luxury and lifestyle, has taken out Victoria’s top property award.
Developer Piccolo was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s Rider Levett Bucknall Victorian Development of the Year award at a cocktail reception last night.
The 1,400-square-metre site, previously occupied by the former Elwood RSL club, has been transformed into Elwood House, a low-lying brick building featuring 30 apartments and three retail tenancies.
‘Elwood House emphasises quality of life with a stunning design in harmony with the local community,’ says the Property Council’s Victorian Executive Director Cressida Wall.
‘While Elwood House is a modern design, the development reflects the local context of the historic precinct. Piccolo’s approach to development shows how urban regeneration can deliver a real uplift in terms of amenity and aesthetics along our suburban streets.’
Designed in collaboration with Woods Bagot and Hecker Guthrie, Elwood House was completed in June 2017.
The Victorian Development of the Year award is part of the 2019 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.
‘Elwood House offers security, privacy, amenity and flexibility with the same level of comfort and liveability found in larger homes,” says Managing Director of RLB in Victoria Ewen McDonald.
‘RLB is proud to have provided cost management and quantity surveying services to Piccolo Developments on Elwood House to produce a quality outcome for the owners and tenants.’
Elwood House is now vying for the Crown Group Award for Best Residential Development at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 17 May. Piccolo’s previous team – delivered with the same winning architectural and interior design team – took home the award in 2013 for the Garden House in North Carlton.
