Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Director, Fiona Doherty, was awarded the Property Council of Australia’s prestigious 2017 Allan Wyluki Professional of the Year Award at Friday night’s ACT Gala Ball and Awards Night.

This is a key milestone for the ACT Director, whose 27 year career as a Quantity Surveyor has added great value to the profession. Not only through the promotion of Quantity Surveying as a career, but through her contribution to promoting women in the property and construction sector.

A great contribution to the industry

Mark Chappé, Director of RLB in the ACT said, ‘Fiona’s award is a well-deserved recognition for a true professional who has made a wonderful contribution to RLB and the industry at large.’

Prior to RLB, Fiona held several prominent positions within the industry including with Altus Page Kirkland.

Over the years she has been a significant contributor to the business sector and Quantity Surveying profession as a corporate leader and executive. Fiona has been a distinguished and much appreciated frontrunner on landmark projects within the ACT and abroad, and is steadfastly committed to ensuring local and international clients remain at the heart of services rendered.

An inspirational leader

Having commenced her career in the UK, she gained her formal qualification (an honours degree in Quantity Surveying) prior to relocating to Singapore for two years, and then to Australia where she has worked for the past 18 years in Sydney, Canberra and Perth.

During her time with Altus Page Kirkland, Fiona rose through the ranks from senior quantity surveyor to become the only female director of cost management in the country. She has been and is a mentor to other colleagues with a specific interest in encouraging women in the industry to stay in the industry.

As a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Fiona is recognised for having achieved the highest standard of success, achievement and expertise in her field.

Promoting and encouraging women in the property and construction sector

As a member of the ACT Chapter Council and former national director of The National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC), Fiona received the NAWIC ACT Crystal Vision Award in 2011, in recognition of her contribution to actively promoting and encouraging women to become part of and progress in the construction industry. Fiona has recently participated in the NAWIC ACT CEO Shadow Program which provides up and coming female leaders an insight into senior leaders responsibilities.

Fiona is the ACT Chapter President of the AIQS, National Chair of the AIQS Diversity and Inclusion Committeeand is a past member of the RICS Oceania World Regional Board – the only female and the youngest member during her tenure of six years.

More recently, Fiona became involved with the Property Council of Australia ACT Divisions Diversity Committee to promote diversity and inclusion within the Property Council and the wider industry.

A passion to succeed

Fiona is a respected Quantity Surveyor, passionate about the profession and is well regarded by her peers. As a mentor within RLB, she demonstrates a strong motivation to succeed, coupled with an awareness of the importance of how to succeed.

Fiona’s experience on complex projects demonstrates her ability to manage under pressure and perform financially, but she also manages to get the best out of people along the way.
