The Te Whare Whakapapa – New Zealand Blood Service – South Island Blood Centre in Christchurch outshone the competition at this year’s 2016 Property Council of New Zealand / Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards.
This is one of 14 RLB projects to be awarded on the evening, having provided cost management and quantity surveying services on the project. The RLB project team was led by Christchurch Director, Malcolm Timms.
Mr Timms noted that the South Island Blood Centre in Christchurch is well deserving of national recognition as a 2016 winner, for its innovative design and clever construction solutions.
‘The building is seismically robust and built to an importance level-3 standard. The centre also has the capacity to support the entire country, should the need arise,’ he said.
Developed by Ngai Tahu Property Ltd, the centre won the Fagerhult NZ Health and Medical Property Award.
The South Island Blood Centre is a 4,000-square-metre purpose-designed facility, used for the collection, processing and manufacture of blood and tissue products.
The building sits on a 7,566-square-metre block of land, is seismically robust, and is able to function without the input of mains service (power, water and drainage).
The Property Council New Zealand / Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards celebrate innovation and leading practice within New Zealand’s property development and investment industries.
RLB has partnered with the Property Council New Zealand to present the awards program for more than 18 years.
The 2016 winners were announced on 17 June, at a gala dinner at Vector Arena in Auckland, attended by over 1,500 people.
