Tauranga Crossing by Warren and Mahoney Architects has won a prestigious award at the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards.

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) provided commercial certainty towards the new civic space.

The generous and attractive precinct provides a compelling example of what modern, multi-shop experiences can be.

The design is based on two key intersecting axes which generate a diagrid ceiling canopy over the retail village and entertainment spaces.

The shorter axis spectacularly opens on its north side to reveal a lush fernery and backyard, and the building’s interior climate is carefully regulated using both passive and active systems, encouraging visitors to dwell a little longer.

Steve Gracey, Managing Director of RLB in Auckland said, ‘We are thrilled that three RLB projects have won awards in the NZIA Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards. Tauranga Crossing, University of Waikato Tauranga CBD Campus, and Zespri were all revealed last week as winning projects that embody the best of sustainable design practices. Rider Levett Bucknall provided commercial certainty on all three projects. Congratulations to all involved in their successful delivery and completion.’
