THE WILLIAM

Refurbishing and revitalising a Melbourne CBD landmark

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

THE WILLIAM

Long regarded by Melbourne City Council as an empty ‘ghost building’ this site has been completely rejuvenated by the demolition and refurbishment of two 1960’s office buildings, on the corner of 199 William Street and 520 Little Bourke Street.

The William contains over 560 apartments, serviced apartments, large office area, retail, gymnasium and open rooftop pool.

Highlights include tapered façades and operable façades for winter garden areas, and a link-bridge extension between the two buildings.

The refurbishment involved a complete strip out of the building to the existing concrete structure and an increase of both the floor plate and number of levels to the new design.

The project constraints in the demolition stages of this site made it logistically and technically demanding.
