The spectacular restoration of the heritage-listed 5 Martin Place has won the 2017 NSW Development of the Year award.

Dexus and Cbus Property were presented with the NSW property industry’s top accolade, at the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Development of the Year cocktail party on 27 April.

Affectionately known as Sydney’s ‘Money Box’ building, 5 Martin Place has long been one of our city’s best-known and respected buildings.

Re-engineered for the new century, the heritage-listed sandstone building has been extensively modernised, while retaining its grand and distinctive historic features.

One of the most innovative workspaces in Australia

Matthew Harris, Managing Director of RLB in NSW said, ‘The considered restoration and transformation of 5 Marin Place has delivered one of the most inspired and innovative commercial workspaces in Australia.’

He added, ‘The building’s 5 Star Green Star rating demonstrates how older buildings may be upgraded to meet new sustainability standards.’

Matthew noted that the quality of entries for this year’s award was very impressive, reflecting the industry’s commitment to pushing the design and innovation envelope.

The 2017 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Award winners will be announced on Friday 5 May, at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.
