One of the property industry’s longest and most fruitful partnerships has chalked up 36 years at the 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

‘Our firm is the very proud principal sponsor of what many call the property industry Oscars,’ said RLB’s NSW Managing Director Matthew Harris.

The Innovation and Excellence Awards are a property institution, showcasing the outstanding design, development and construction talent across the country.

This year’s RLB Australian Development of the Year – the most coveted award – was presented to Lendlease for Sydney’s largest urban renewal project, Barangaroo South.

A vital new extension to the CBD
‘Barangaroo South is a truly iconic international project which has transformed a disused container port into a vibrant and vital new extension to the Sydney CBD,’ noted Matthew.

On completion in 2023, Barangaroo South will house 23,000 office workers, 2,000 residents, a six-star hotel and 80-plus cafés, bars, restaurants and retail outlets across more than half a million square metres of space.

An exceptional team effort
He added, ‘Barangaroo South is globally recognised as a testbed for innovation in sustainability, community engagement and urban renewal – and this award acknowledges this exceptional team effort.’

Barangaroo South took home a collection of awards. In addition to the Australian Development of the Year, the project also won the WSP Award for Best Sustainable Development – New Buildings, the Liberty Steel Award for Best Mixed Use Development and the Tenterfield People’s Choice Award.

RLB provided due diligence, risk assessment, cost management and independent certification on the winning project, with Matthew Harris leading the RLB team.

‘The evening proved extremely successful for Rider Levett Bucknall and our clients, with four RLB projects scooping national awards,’ said Matthew.

Lendlease Barangaroo (NSW) won the Eagle Lighting Australia Award for Best Workplace Project, and was completed on behalf of Lendlease. The RLB team on this project was led by Director, Nick Ferrera.

The ICC Sydney Convention Centre won both the Brain & Poulter Award for Tourism and Leisure Development and the Woods Bagot Award for Best Public Building. Owned by Project Co, Darling Harbour Live Consortium, the RLB team provided cost management, due diligence and financial certification and was led by NSW Managing Director, Matthew Harris.

Tonsley Innovation District – Renewal SA won The KONE Award for Development Innovation. Owned by Renewal SA, the RLB team on the project was led by Giulio Altamura.
