A series of former government offices in Tuggeranong that have been transformed into a sustainable, mixed-use retirement community has taken out the ACT’s top property award.

Greenway Views by LDK has been crowned the Rider Levett Bucknall ACT Development of the Year.

RLB Director, Matt Richard, congratulated LDK on the prestigious award win and said Greenway Views is an outstanding example of adaptive revitalisation that delivers long-term, sustainable community benefits.

‘Rather than taking a simple journey of knock-down and rebuild, the project team adopted a considered approach that celebrated its ‘good bones’ and repurposed the buildings into engaging and sustainable spaces for seniors.’

Safeguarding a second life for a large-scale asset

The site, which formerly accommodated the offices of the Department of Social Services, has been significantly refurbished and converted into a high-end retirement village with strong sustainability credentials.

Completed in late 2019, Greenway Views comprises 210 apartments within three different purpose-built blocks, common area amenities, medical rooms, cafes, bar, gym, beauty salon, restaurant, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, education facilities, theatre, landscaping, new roads, and playgrounds.

Apartments range from one to three bedrooms, and up to 90sqm in size. The residential buildings feature innovative technology that offers 24-hour onsite special services for dementia care, aged care apartments, or serviced retirement apartments.

‘Greenway Views has given this large-scale asset a second life, while taking a long-term, future-focused view on the evolving health, wellness and lifestyle needs in the retirement sector,’ said Property Council’s ACT Executive Director, Adina Cirson.

‘It is testament to the innovation and ingenuity that drives the Territory’s property sector and supports sustainable economic growth and prosperity in our communities.’
