The new premium-grade 33,000 square-metre building, 171 Collins Street Melbourne, has won this year’s Victorian Development of the Year award.

Cbus Property and Charter Hall were presented with the Victorian industry’s top accolade at the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Development of the Year cocktail party on 3 May, 2017.

Developed by Charter Hall and Cbus Property, and designed by Bates Smart, 171 Collins Street is Victoria’s first Premium Grade building in over 20 years.

Located in the prestigious ‘Paris-end’ of Collins Street, the building provides approximately 33,000 square metres of office space across 17 floors in a new generation tower, and seven levels of boutique office space in the heritage listed Mayfair building.

Impressive environmental credentials

It has achieved a 6 star Green Star – Office As Built (v2) rating, representing ‘World Leadership’ in environmentally sustainable design, and has achieved a 6 Star NABERS Energy Rating.

Ewen McDonald, Director of RLB in Victoria said, ‘By applying leading ESD principles, 171 Collins Street provides long-term efficiencies and healthier, better quality working environments for tenants.’

‘The building’s impressive environmental credentials are the result of a range of forward thinking initiatives and advanced design technology,” he added.

RLB provided cost management and quantity surveying services on the project, with key project team members including Chris Robinson and Natasha Carter.

The 2017 Property Council of Australia / RLB Innovation & Excellence Award winners will be announced on Friday 5 May, at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.
