The $70 million Ibis Adelaide has been recognised with the top tourism honour at the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards.
Hines Property was presented with the Brain & Poulter Award for Best Tourism and Leisure Development.
Ibis Adelaide is one of seven RLB projects to win an award on the evening, having provided cost management and quantity surveying services on the project. The RLB project team was led by Adelaide Director, Ben Anderson.
Property Council of Australia Chief Executive, Ken Morrison, says that with 311 rooms over 17 floors, the Adelaide property is the largest Ibis in Australia, and represents the new face of low-cost hotels.
‘The design of the hotel is different to anything else in Adelaide’s CBD, and the business model – which matches good design and technology with affordability – reinvents the low-cost hotel sector,’ Mr Morrison added.
Director of RLB in South Australia, Ben Anderson said, ‘The Ibis Adelaide is the first purpose-built economy hotel in the CBD for more than two decades, and provides a major boost to the Adelaide tourism sector.
He added, ‘Consumer lifestyles, the digital revolution and globalisation are changing the hotel landscape, and the development industry is responding with innovative and contemporary design solutions that grow jobs, boost the economy and create great places for people.’
The 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners were announced on Friday 3 June, at a gala dinner at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, attended by over 900 people.
