A transport-oriented community developed around the historic Claremont Oval has taken out Western Australia’s top property award.

Claremont on the Park by DevelopmentWA has been crowned the Rider Levett Bucknall WA State Development of the Year.

RLB Managing Director, Mark Bendotti, congratulated DevelopmentWA on its visionary development.

‘Claremont on the Park is the culmination of more than 15 years of dedicated consultation and inclusive planning to deliver an outcome that best met community expectations,’ Mark said.

‘It has also provided diverse housing choices that enable long-term residents to downsize in their suburb.’

As one of DevelopmentWA’s ‘Innovation Through Demonstration’ initiatives, Claremont on the Park has delivered an innovative and effective approach to the challenges of reinvigorating ageing community infrastructure and championing the benefits of increased density in established suburbs.

Claremont on the Park will ultimately deliver 11,700sqm of commercial space, 2,600sqm of retail space and more than 850 new homes. To meet the community’s expectations and the needs of an anticipated 2,000 new residents and workers, almost 30 per cent of the project area is publicly accessible open space.

Inclusive planning and revitalisation

The Property Council’s WA Executive Director, Sandra Brewer, said the development is an outstanding example of inclusive planning and revitalisation.

‘Claremont on the Park has successfully transformed an underutilised sporting facility into a vibrant activity centre alongside the creation of new homes, retail and commercial offerings, and cultural and community spaces,’ Sandra said.

‘The long-term vision and planning to achieve this outcome have delivered countless community benefits, all of which centre around its sustainable and connected approach to innovative infill and transport-oriented development.

‘It has also provided a blueprint for urban infill in established heritage areas, providing a precedent for future redevelopment with implications for the broader Perth community.’
