UNIVERSITY OF READING, MALAYSIA CAMPUS
This 27,000 square-metre development provides the University of Reading experience in Asia, by recreating its parkland-style campus.
It includes two buildings arranged around a covered ‘heart space’. Using an ETFE roof (allowing UV light) and structural glazing at each end, it forms an atrium with landscaping and link bridges.
Taking up to 3,000 students, the three course areas are business and law, science, and the built environment.
The campus is part of EduCity, a 600-acre education hub comprising universities and higher education institutes, research and development centres, student accommodation, and sports facilities.
Appointed by the University of Reading, RLB provided cost and value engineering advice at all stages of the building’s development.
RLB also assisted the university with negotiations with the Malaysian developer of the site to agree the University’s rent-to-buy profile.
Shortlisted for the Future Projects Education Award at World Architecture Festival 2013 Awards.
Phase 1 was completed in September 2015.
