I would agree that I’m not your usual apprentice. After retiring from my swimming career, I harnessed my focus and drive to achieve my goals and overcome obstacles, build on my experience, broaden my skill set and, most importantly, produce high-quality work from concept to handover. I have found a new passion and the construction sector has welcomed me in my second career.
Rebecca Humphrey, Apprentice Cost Manager, Sheffield
I got my MSc in Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Trent University. Now that I’m qualified, I’m mapping out my personal career development plan and taking advantage of the ongoing opportunities for career development at RLB. Through RLB’s Protégé Programme I’ve been able to develop and apply both the technical and soft skills required to build a progressive, successful career.
Ameen Abushaira, Graduate Cost Manager, London
I’ve been fortunate to visit China as part of RLB’s Global Experience Exchange Programme, gaining insights into exciting projects, from the 200-metre-tall ’18 Steps’ in Chongqing to the award-winning ‘1000 Trees’ scheme in Shanghai. Learning from my Chinese colleagues allowed me to bring back insights into digital solutions that our UK offices now use.
Matthew Carter, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Bristol
I’ve been with RLB for more than 30 years since accepting a summer placement in 1988. I must have made a good impression – not least because RLB offered me a sponsorship for my final year at Reading University where I studied quantity surveying. I was proud to become Managing Partner of our Bristol office in 2015.
Jackie Pinder, Managing Partner, Bristol
RLB has supported my professional development, providing the opportunity to work across different sectors, services and regions, helping to enhance my skill-set, and succeed on my journey to becoming Chartered. I love how tight-knit, welcoming and supportive teams are. Everyone is willing to help and listen.
