SELLAFIELD ASSET MANAGEMENT DATABASE

RLB was appointed to design, develop, and implement a database to record and manage all of Sellafield's built assets.

The Sellafield site contains over 900 buildings plus associated plant and infrastructure.
There were a number of data sources to monitor these assets. Many were difficult to access, and stored in different formats and locations.
RLB proposed a database solution, and without a fully defined brief, recommended that it should be designed and developed in a rapid prototyping environment.
Working closely with the client, this approach was successful, as it was possible to quickly accommodate any recommendations and ideas being suggested.
Since 2003, when the first version of the database was released, it has been developed and improved.
Currently, it is an SQL database with a web browser front end. This allows the 200+ users to instantly access and update asset information from anywhere on the Sellafield network.
