Morgan Sindall Later Living has celebrated a significant milestone in the development of a new state-of-the-art care home supported by RLB UK, that is set to provide older people in York with high quality residential, nursing and memory care.

A topping out event and naming ceremony took place at the 80-bed home in Burnholme, which will officially be called Mossdale Residence, to mark the beginning of the final phase of construction.

The facility was secured by City of York Council and is being brought forward by Morgan Sindall Later Living alongside development partners Pacy & Wheatley and RLB UK.  Leading care home provider HC-One has been appointed to operate the care home.

Due to open this autumn, Mossdale Residence is an important part of York’s older persons’ accommodation programme which is working to ensure the city’s growing population of older people have access to a wide range of modern accommodation.

The care home will be part of a multi-million-pound health and wellbeing campus planned for the former Burnholme Community College site which will deliver care, health, library, community, a newly opened sports centre as well as new homes.

Laurence Basturkmen, director at Morgan Sindall Later Living, said:

“We are thrilled to have arrived at this key stage in the development of Mossdale Residence which will provide state-of-the-art, high-quality accommodation for older people in York.

“The scheme will support people to remain as independent as possible with a great quality of life. Mossdale Residence will provide a home in the heart of a growing community with access to new facilities and improved outdoor space and we are delighted to be delivering it alongside the City of York and HC-One.

“Working with local authorities, housing associations and care providers nationwide, we are committed to delivering outstanding, cost-effective and affordable later living and extra care housing that makes a positive difference to the lifestyles of the more vulnerable people within our society.”

Councillor Carol Runciman, executive member for health and adult social care at City of York Council said:

“I’m delighted with Morgan Sindall Later Living and their progress to create much-needed new accommodation. This care home which we have procured, promises additional high-quality care in the most modern facilities to some of our most vulnerable residents.

“We work to support people to remain as independent as possible with the best possible quality of life. This accommodation is in a growing community alongside our new library, community facilities, sports centre, improved outdoor space and homes.”

Paul Batchelor, Partner at Rider Levett Bucknall, said:

“It is great to be marking the final stage of construction on this state-of-the-art care facility in York. This forms part of our ongoing collaboration with Morgan Sindall Later Living who we are proud to be supporting on projects across the country providing much needed care home and extra care facilities.”

John Ransford, Executive Director at HC-One, said:

“We at HC-One are thrilled to be marking this important stage of the care home’s development, together with the City of York Council and Morgan Ashley. We are excited to become part of, and support, the wider York community when the home opens later this year.

“We strive to be the first-choice care provider for Residents and Colleagues in every community we serve. We are very much looking forward to providing the kindest possible care for elderly people in York, in a place that they can call home. We are also excited to work with talented Colleagues who will benefit from our award-winning learning and development opportunities as part of the HC-One family.”
