Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) and the World Academy of Sport (WAoS), global leaders in the built environment and sport respectively, have joined forces to offer a unique service, sharing knowledge and learnings to deliver stronger economic, environmental and social value outcomes for venues and mega-events.

This turnkey solution provides cities and governments with specialist project delivery expertise, unequalled infrastructure financing, and venue and event learning into the entire lifecycle. The focus is on defining value objectives from the outset to support informed decision making to enhance an event’s legacy.

The new service provides the following key benefits:

  • Highly efficient venue development across the entire project lifecycle for the benefit of all stakeholders.
  • Wider project value objectives including capital and lifecycle costs, programme carbon, environment, and social value.
  • Best flexible market rate venue financing available out of London markets.
  • World-class event and venue learning programmes to ensure key staff are equipped to meet business plans vital for the long-term sustainability of each venue.

Launching 4 May 2022, the new service – Sustainable Venue Solutions (SVS) – offers comprehensive support to venue developers, International Federations, rights holders and Organising Committees across the world. Operating as a joint venture between WAoS and RLB, SVS has exclusive support of the finance exchange, Estates and Infrastructure Exchange (EIX).

Russell Lloyd, Global Board Director at RLB, comments: “Sustainable Venue Solutions makes absolute sense for our industry. We support our clients along the entire value chain and ensure that sport venue infrastructure is not only built to specification and cost but that the project value outcomes are delivered through the project lifecycle. This is both innovative and overdue for the international sport and events sector. Major sports events have created some notable unsustainable legacy venues due to weak business plans resulting in poor investment decisions.”

“When we combine this holistic approach with the unique and highly scalable funding offer that the WAoS-EIX partnership offers, it really is a true value innovation for the sports sector. We are excited to be partnering with WAoS to create this new programme because all venue projects can benefit from efficiencies right across their financing, development and operating phases.”

WAoS’ Managing Director, Chris Solly, says: “As one of the major innovations in this space since Event Learning’s inception in 1999, we are delighted to announce the next generation of Knowledge Management and Event Learning, by combining the unique skills of WAoS as a global leader in Knowledge and Event Learning, and RLB, which is critical to the development, procurement and commercial assurance of venues and sports stadia around the world. The partnership is further underpinned with our global infrastructure financing partner, EIX, providing an end-to-end venue solution right from inception through to ongoing operation.”

“Through Sustainable Venue Solutions, we create true value innovation for our industry and help to reduce venue development and financing costs, along with providing long term training and development for those people running these venues and mega-events. What we are able to deliver is a market-focused sustainable solution at a lower cost, with a higher value than what is currently available through existing offerings and systems, together with pre-packaged funding availability.”
